Painting this interior, I aimed to capture the constant busyness of life, which can sometimes be overwhelming. Part of inspiration for this painting came from being astounded by the amount of mess on our sink! I thought the variety of shapes and objects would make for an interesting composition. For colours, I chose a deepening orange for the background to give an underlying sense of energy, tension and anxiousness. This I contrasted with purples and blues, aiming to give an overall dreamlike, perhaps feverish feel to the painting. It reads from right to left - the objects being at first more neat and orderly, and then descending backward into chaos. I used slightly neater, more defined brush strokes in the objects closer to the viewer, to indicate some level of order and control of the situation; likewise, towards the left of the painting, I used more rapid, loose strokes to give an impression of disorder.
