NICOLA MASON

My every-day and ways of seeing are reflected in my work. Interiors regularly appear in my paintings where domestic scenes often intersect with ecological themes. Revisited paintings withing paintings add additional layers and conceivable portals to other times, places and ideas. My investigations into ways in which still life could be employed within a painting practice were buoyed by my Fine Art studies at the University of New South Wales and the Australian National University. I am interested in the possibilities of enticing new ways of thinking through connection and engagement with art. I live and work in regional Australia in Wiradjuri Country. In 2024 my work was awarded the Early Career Art Award at the Grace Cossington Smith Art Award. My work has additionally been selected for numerous other national art exhibitions and prizes including both the S. H. Ervin Salon des refusés (alternate Archibald portrait and Wynne landscape) exhibition.
