SARAH WAGHORN  

British born Australian, Sarah draws upon her interest (and former career path) in homes and gardens to explore these worlds in oil paint. She often starts with gouache sketches - sometimes en plein air - but also from her imagination - and which are then re-imagined in her studio. It is the Australian light which plays a key role in her work and how that plays out in each scene. She is driven by the forces of colour mixing and the ensuing brushwork which results in an ‘alla prima’ artwork/painting.

She oscillates between landscape and interiors but both focussing on a complex scene of detail and colour - maximalism is her speciality!

She has been a finalist in several prizes: Muswellbrook Art Prize, The Calleen Art Award, The Waverley Art Prize, National Capital Art Prize, Lethbridge Landscape art Prize, Hawkesbury Art Prize. In 2022 she was awarded a residency at Tweed Regional Gallery to specifically work in the Margaret Olley Centre.
