I am a Sydney based oil painter, slightly obsessed with interiors. Born in South Africa, I have been calling Australia home for the past 20 years. My artwork reveals a fascination with concepts of Home and Belonging, and my experience as immigrant navigating the process of integration and settling, lies at the heart of my art practice. Integral to the process of home-making, was spending regular time in the Australian bush, studying the rich Australian flora. I fell in love with the beauty of the waratah flower, and to my delight discovered that the iconic South African protea, and the quintessential Australian waratah both belong to the Proteaceae family! The intention of my artwork is to integrate the personal home interior with the exterior, natural world. I am interested in the fringes and deliberately merge the lines between the outside and inside, inviting the viewer to explore a narrative where facts and fiction, past and present, meet and settle. I think of my work as snapshots of endless possibilities to connect, reframe, make sense of our lives and dream about the future.
