“After completing a Bachelor of Science at UNE Armidale, Stuart worked as a Geologist in remote Northern Territory and New South Wales. Moving back to Armidale gave Stuart the opportunity to study art and complete a four year ArtCertificate in 1990. Living & painting in France for two years broadened his painting style and knowledge.Stuart has won many major art prizes and his paintings have been selected to beexhibited in two major Australian Landscape Art Awards, including the Conrad Jupiters Art Prize, the Norvill Landscape Art Prize, the Muswellbrook Art Prize, the Stanthorpe Art Prize and the Paddington Art Prize. He has exhibited widely both in the New England region as well as in Sydney. He paints with acrylic and mixed media, capturing the Australian landscape in a contemporary form. The paintings for this exhibition, Wild Rivers at Weswal Gallery, are inspired by the Gorge Country around the New England, in particular around the Apsley Falls, Walcha. The underlying geology of the area, and the erosion, has resulted in spectacular landscapes which give a multiple layered source of inspiration.”
